So last week, we had the South Central regional meeting of the Pennsylvania Association of Agricultural Educators. We traveled to Cumberland Valley High School to attend this meeting.
Several Ag Teachers were attending the meeting.
At the meeting, we discussed several different topics, the most significant to me included the NOCTI pilot test. PA currently has around 120 students who have taken the pilot test. In order for the test to be officially adopted by NOCTI, there needs to be a minimum of 200 students take the test.
The NOCTI test is the final assessment for an Agriculture program designed to test students who have completed the program on all of the information they have learned over the past several years. The test that is currently being used is not one representative of what is being taught in Pennsylvania. Because it is a national test, the students are not necessarily getting accurate results which is why a NOCTI specifically for Pennsylvania Agriculture has been created.
Overall this meeting was an informative one. Once I graduate, I plan on continuing attending the PAAE meetings. Having the chance to meet and discuss these issues and topics we are currently dealing with in agriculture is going to be an important part of my own professional development. The time is fast approaching that I will be a full fledged teacher and I will need to rely on this organization to help me grow.
